The 2027 Championships will be staged at Beijing's iconic National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest, and will feature ten days of international athletics competition.
World Athletics originally scheduled the Championships for 11–19 September 2027. Following a request from the local organising committee, the World Athletics Council approved revised dates of Friday 10 September through Sunday 19 September 2027.
The additional day allows the opening ceremony to take place on 10 September alongside the first competition session and enables an evening competition session on each of the ten days.
